New Landscape Series
2005-2008
Many of these recent works were painted plein-air and completed outside – mostly at the Sands Point Preserve in NY. Others were worked on entirely in the studio, using smaller oil and watercolor sketches as inspiration and reminders.
It was exhilarating to paint a very large canvas outside – on windy days I had to tie the painting to the easle to keep it from blowing down. If you look closely, some paintings still have twigs and grass embedded in them from falling.
